The 2021 governorship election in Anambra state is another litmus test for the state to get it right politically.
What stalls development, progress and growth is when the wrong people gets into power.
Majority of the candidates currently vying to contest the state governorship election are mostly billionaires. The greatest misfortune the people will suffer is to sell their ‘mandate’ to the highest bidder.
So they are ready to invest part of their billions to hoodwink the hapless electorates to get into office.
Once they grab power they immediately alienate themselves from the people. The people suffer in silence until another four years
The above was succinctly captured by the ace journalist, Mr Casmir Igbokwe when he addressed a group of Anambra professionals last year during the official unveiling of Soludo Promoters Forum (SPF) in Isuofia, Aguata LGA, Anambra state
According to Casmir, Anambra has many moneybags who are ready to bankroll some of the political misfits in our midst for the sole purpose of milking the state resources.
He admonished that the people must be sensitized on the dangers of selling their birthright because of money. He asked rhetorically for what will it profit a man to collect N5,000 or N10,000 and lose good roads, employment of his children, sound education and health facilities etc.
The 2021 governorship election provides a golden opportunity for Ndi-Anambra to take their destiny in their hands. This is the time to put an end to the politics of ‘Bread and Butter’ especially in this era of economic uncertainties.
The world is moving at a fast pace. The global economy has taken a whole new direction.
The disruptive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has also had its unpalatable tolls on virtually all the countries in the world.
Nations are now looking for survival strategies to escape the after effects of the post COVID-19 era and beyond.
A new world order is currently evolving . And everyone must brace up to it.
With all these gloomy pictures, Anambra seems to be lucky. Ndi Anambra has the uncommon fortune of being blessed with a distinguished son in the person of Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo. A man that needs no formal introduction.
Casmir again in that brilliant speech to the Professional class enumerated the core essence of Soludo. He said the man Soludo does not need further introduction. He is a household name in Nigeria.
A professor of Economics, he was unarguably, the most successful Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ever. He has travelled far and wide and has consulted for many renowned global institutions.
Currently is a member of the Economic Advisory Council, a national think-thank set up by the Federal Government to advise it on economic matters
To Casmir, therefore, Soludo has what it takes to take Anambra state to the next level. He affirmed that none of those jostling for the position of governorship is a match to Soludo’s intellectual prowess, competence, capacity and sound knowledge of the economy.
He went further to say that Anambra will experience uncommon transformation if Soludo moves to Agu-Awka. He confidently expressed that there may not be need for anyone to go to Dubai for holiday by the time Soludo is through with Anambra.
Casmir may be completely right in his dissection of Soludo. The critical fact remains that the onus lies with Ndi Anambra in making Casmir’s beliefs come to reality.
Come November 6, 2021 let Ndi Anambra come out en mass and vote massively for Soludo! We cannot afford to take Anambra state, the illuminating “Light of the Nation” back to Egypt. God forbids!
